Duraseal Technology after repairs
Posted by Michael from Dover, OH, US on April 27, 2009
I am wondering about the effectiveness of Duraseal after a puncture repair and or retread of the tire. Does the duraseal function as original after the retreading ? Also in the repair manual , it mentions removal of the liner, I am assuming that this is a permanent removal of the sealant and it cannot be replaced is this correct?
The manual also states that a NDT II electronic inspection machine is required, is this something most retread facilites currently have?
Our DuraSeal, self-sealing tires have been around for several years now. We say that DuraSeal will self seal tire punctures up to 1/4" in diameter. I assume you are asking about a puncture greater than 1/4" in diameter that does require a repair when the object is removed. The liner and the sealent material does is removed in the area of the repair so the tire looses its self-sealing properties in the repaired area. The rest of the tire will continue to have the self-sealing qualities after repair and after retreading. I can not speak for all retread facilities but, can tell you that any Goodyear Authorized Retreader is required to have an electronic inspection machine for nail hole detection.
Age of tires 1

Is there a maximum recommended age for truck tires to be used? We have a reserve fire truck with 15 year old tires on it. NFPA recommends a 7 year maximum use for tires. Is there any other industry recommendations for useful tire life?
The tire industry and Goodyear have gone on record to say that there is no specific age limit for a tire. It is all a matter of how a tire has been used, the care it has been given and its exposure to direct sunlight or other factors that can effect weathering of the sidewall. We urge people who are concerned to check with a tire professional (a reputable dealer who you trust to give you a fair assessment of the tires condition).

I currently run a Mich xdn2 retread drive tire it seems to work well for are transfers( sand and gravel trucks) i have concerns about a tire holding rocks causing rock drilling what retread would you recommend in a Goodyear
The Michelin retread you are currently running would seem to be designed for pure over-the-road opperations. A similar Goodyear retread is the G372. But, if these vehicles carry sand and gravel and you are concerned about rock drilling, you might want to consider our G282 retread that is compounded for some off highway use.
Older Rv Tires

I have Goodyeat 275/70R/22.5 G670RV on my Safari Cheetah 38PDQ Motorhome. The date code is the 36th week of 2003. The tires are in great shape as far as wear, they only have 6,000 miles on them. My question relates to age and when to replace, they have no checking but the oldtimers say to replace them at 6 years of age regarless of wear and mileage.
With the newer tires and your ozone and UV resistant compounds, is that still true or an old wives tale. Should I replace them now?
If the tires show no signs of weathering on the sidewalls, they should be fine. If you want the opinion of an expert, I suggest you visit a tire dealer you trust will give you the straight story. There is no age limit on tires. It is all a matter of how they have been maintained and cared for.
Goodyear Tread Models

I am working on a municipal bid for a 29,000# GVWR chassis with 24′ reefer body. The bid spec requires “Goodyear 11R22.5G 14ply G150 RSA” front and rear tires. Does Goodyear make a G150 now? I couldn’t find it in the Engineering Book on the website. The same bid spec 18 months ago required “G149″ tread, which is standard on our chassis. I want to find out if the model exists before I question the municipality on their spec.
We made the G149 for several years, introduced the G150 HSA tire about a year and a half ago for high scrub applications and we are now replacing it with the G661 HSA. All these tires in the 11R22.5 size. So, yes, there is probably still tires in inventory out there in the G149 and G150 designs but, if you have a need for a tire that resists high scrub type wear, the G661 HSA will be available within the next few days.
