Tire mileage
Posted by Rodney from Honolulu, HI, US on December 8, 2008

What is the average miles per 1/32″ on a Goodyear G395 LRG in a 11R22.5? I am located in Hawaii.

No matter what the average treadwear mileage of our G395 tire may be, it would be irrelevent to what it would do in Hawaii. The G395 LHS, is a terrific long haul tire that probably wouldn't work all that well on the islands of Hawaii. Our newest regional all position tire, the G661 HSA, would be ideal for the short hauls you would have in Hawaii.

Uneven tread wear
Posted by David from Warrenton, NC, US on December 8, 2008

On both steer tires, the inside of each tread is wearing. The tires have only 17,000 miles on them and this is showing up already. I just purchased this truck and the tires were new at the time. They had been balanced and trued (a process I know nothing about. The tires were put on by the truck dealer. They are Dynacargo DY-501, 11R22.5 tires with 100 lbs inflation. I’m pretty sure this is an alignment related issue. But, would you possibly know a more specific area to check? Kingpins, tie-rods, or maybe even bearings?

Fast wear on the inside shoulders of both steer tires is a classic case of tow out wear. Although a little bit of tow out is recommended for commercial trucks, too much will cause the condition you describe. Have the steer axle of your truck checked out by a reputable alignment expert. You make a good point about worn components such as tie rod ends. If they are worn, they can give you a false alignment reading. Make sure the alignment check includes and inspection of the components you mention.
