8r 19.5 vs 225-70-r19.5
Posted by MIKE from FRESNO, CA, US on August 21, 2008

I HAVE A 31′ WINNEBAGO CLASS A WITH 8R 19.5′S. MY DEALER HAS A SET OF 225-70-R19.5′S I WANT TO SWAP OUT AS THE TIRES THAT ARE ON IT ARE NO NAMES THAT ARE 4 YEARS OLD. TIRES LOOK FINE AND STILL HAVE THE NUBS. STILL, I DON’T TRUST GENERICS (ESPECIALLY ON THE STEERING AXLE). WHAT HEIGHT DIFFERENCE SHOULD I EXPECT WITH THE RV 670′S? WILL IT BE NOTICABLE?

There should be a difference of about 1.5" in diameter or .75 " in radius between these two tire sizes. The smaller diameter tire will mean that the engine will be turning more RPM's for the same road speed. Assuming the vehicle was designed for the 8R19.5 tires, you will be getting a false speedometer reading and the fuel mileage will be affected (could be positive or negative). Overall, the handling of the RV should be better as it wil have a lower center of gravity and wider tire tread widths.
