Wider 24.5’s?
Posted by Scott on January 30, 2007

I have a tandem fertilizer truck with a 24 ft body (very large). It has 11R24.5’s. I need something wider to stay up on soft ground and reduce compaction. Is there a wider 24.5 with a very agressive (waste haul lug type) tread pattern? My other smaller truck (18 ft) has 315/80R22.5’s up from 11R22.5’s and saw major improvement.

The 12R24.5 tire size is wider and taller than the 11R24.5 tires you are running now. A step in the right direction but not a big difference. If you decide to go with a 12R24.5, make sure there is enought clearence and that the minimum dual spacing is met.
