Switching from Tube Type to Tubeless Tires
Posted by Donald on January 23, 2007

I have a 1989 Ford F-800 Boom truck. This truck is used locally and max. spd. is 65MPH. Currently it has 10.00R20 tubed bias ply tires on split rims. I would like to up grade the steer axle to a radial tubeless tire on a 22.5″ aluminum rim.

What tire size do you recommend to replace a 10.00R20 This truck is used in some off road conditions. Do you think a wider foot print floatation tire would give any benefits on a 16,000 Lb axle rating front axle. (with the appropriate offset wheel)

Also, other than small diameter differences is there any major differences between a metric radial tire such as a 255/70/R22.5 and a radial 11R22.5 tire?

The 11R22.5 (tubeless radial) is dimensionally similar to the tire you are running now. I think that the 255/70R22.5 size would be considered quite a bit smaller than what you are running now. We do not sell an on-off road tire in 255/70R22.5. If you use this vehicle off road enough to warrant using a mixed service tire, but I think you should be a highway tire. You have many choices and may wish to look at them on our website http://www.goodyear.com/truck/products/products.html
