Tire Weights
Posted by Trisha on January 10, 2007

I have been trying to track down this information everywhere but can never seem to get an answer that doesn’t say “it depends”: On average, what does a passenger tire weigh?

It depends. There are tiny tires for tiny cars (I drive a Mini Cooper) and there are big tires for big cars (my wife drives an SUV). What do you mean by passenger car tire? Just tires on cars? Is my wife's SUV a car or a truck? Truck tires are probably heavier (on average) than car tires. You could contact the RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association (www.rma.org). Given some parameters, they may be able to answer your question.

National Account
Posted by Patrick on January 10, 2007

Who would I need to contact to set up a national acct for my trucking business?

Go to www.goodyear.com/truck, find the "contact us" link, and send a note regarding National Accounts. To become a Goodyear National Account, you must have the potential to purchase $250,000 in tires and services in one year. If you do not meet that requirement, you might qualify as a "preferred fleet". We will figure out which will work for you when you send us your e-mail.

ALL TIRES & NITROGEN GAS
Posted by DENNIS on January 10, 2007

CAN YOU TELL US WHAT THE ADVANTAGES vs. THE COST & TIME/EFFORT IS IT TO USE NITROGEN GAS IN OUR FLEET TIRES? ALSO, IF CAR & EVEN MOTORCYCLE/BICYCLE TIRES ETC. WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS PROCEDURE??? IS THERE ANY CONCULSIVE REPORTS THAT COULD BE SENT OUT TO SUPPORT ANY OF THESE FINDINGS?

As far as I know, there are is no test data to support any conclusions (positive or negative) about nitrogen inflation in the tires of fleets. If anyone out there has something, let me know. Nitrogen inflation is the subject of a presentation next month at the TMC (Technology and Maintenance Council) winter meeting in Tampa. If you are a fleet owner or maintenance manager, you should attend for this presentation and about a 1000 other reasons. Otherwise, if you remind me in a month, I will tell you what was said.
