Trailer Dog Tracking with Wide Base Single Tires We have super singles 445/50R22.5 on our 53′ trailers and even when they are aligned correct they still dog track to the right side with the crown of the road. What causes this and how do you correct it? I can only guess with the information you have given me. It is possible that wide base single tires are more affected by road crown than standard tires. If this is true, maybe the alignment of the trailer axles needs to be altered from the current setting to compensate for this.
Wider 24.5’s? I have a tandem fertilizer truck with a 24 ft body (very large). It has 11R24.5’s. I need something wider to stay up on soft ground and reduce compaction. Is there a wider 24.5 with a very agressive (waste haul lug type) tread pattern? My other smaller truck (18 ft) has 315/80R22.5’s up from 11R22.5’s and saw major improvement. The 12R24.5 tire size is wider and taller than the 11R24.5 tires you are running now. A step in the right direction but not a big difference. If you decide to go with a 12R24.5, make sure there is enought clearence and that the minimum dual spacing is met.
Mismatched Tires When the term mismatch tires is used, is tire manufacture included as a parameter in the equation as a mismatch? In my mind tires are mismatched when the diameters differ by more than 1/4 inch in a dual assembly.
Inside Shoulder Wear RS Steer Tire In our fleet, we have an ‘03 9200i International day cab. Since new, we have had inside shoulder wear on the right side steer tire. Its the wavey wear pattern. The front end has been checked 6 times and they say everthing is well within specs. We have automatic wheel balancers on both wheels and before we put them on we would balance tires, also. It doesn’t matter what brand tire we use the wear is still there. The left tire wears fine. The rear axles were checked at about 200,000 miles and they were fine. Still no one has an answer for this problem. It is difficult to determine the cause of a wear pattern via e-mail. I assume all six alignment checks were not performed at the same alignment shop. ?? If they were, you should consider a second opinion. Since the wear pattern has been evident on several brands of tires, it's safe to assume something is going on with the vehicle that is affecting the wear on tires.
Switching from Tube Type to Tubeless Tires I have a 1989 Ford F-800 Boom truck. This truck is used locally and max. spd. is 65MPH. Currently it has 10.00R20 tubed bias ply tires on split rims. I would like to up grade the steer axle to a radial tubeless tire on a 22.5″ aluminum rim. The 11R22.5 (tubeless radial) is dimensionally similar to the tire you are running now. I think that the 255/70R22.5 size would be considered quite a bit smaller than what you are running now. We do not sell an on-off road tire in 255/70R22.5. If you use this vehicle off road enough to warrant using a mixed service tire, but I think you should be a highway tire. You have many choices and may wish to look at them on our website http://www.goodyear.com/truck/products/products.html |
