Tire inflation systems and warranties
Posted by Tim on March 15, 2006
I’d like to know if my tire warranties will still be good if I equip my rig with a cental tire inflation device…one of the ones that controls tire pressures.
A central tire inflation system will not affect your tire warranty.
Tire Shine Chemical

I would like to know what to use to get a great shine on tires.
Armor All makes five tire clean up and shine products with a range of "shine". Check out their website here http://www.armorall.com/prods_wheeltire.html
For what it's worth, whe we have tires on display, we typically clean the tires and use Windex on them. We feel that products like Armor All make them shine too much and they become very slippery and messy to handle.
Intermodal Tires - 14 ply vs 12 ply
Posted by Tim on March 14, 2006
Tim,
Is there a performance differences between 14 ply and 12 ply tires on in the Intermodal enviroment; is one better than the other and why?
The 14 ply tire is built to carry a higher load than the 12 ply tire. The difference will depend on the tire size. If they are similar tires (brand and type) "performance" should be very similar.
New Truck Vibration

WE BOUGHT A 2006 VOLVO WITH AUTOSHIFT IT HAS HAD A TERRIBLE VIBRATION AT SPEEDS FROM 30 TO 60 MPH. REALLY BAD. IT GETS WORSE WHEN YOU HOOK A TRAILER TO IT. WE’VE HAD THE FRONT TIRES BALANCED BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. THE DEALER SAYS NOTHING WRONG. IT’S A NIGHTMARE
I recommend that you take the vehicle to an authorized Goodyear commercial tire dealer to get balance & runouts checked on both steer & drive positions. Steer tire balance may be OK, but high runout of the tire/wheel assembly may cause vibration. If assembly runouts greater than .060" are identified, a match-mounting procedure needs to be used. Our service manual describes the procedure for diagnosing vibration complaints & match-mounting tires to wheels. If this does not resolve your problem, contact me again via this website with details on how to get in touch with you. I will not publish your name or address but will contact you outside this forum.
Switching to Tires with Lower Speed Rating
Posted by Tim on March 9, 2006
I have a 2005 Toyota Avalon with 215/55R17 93V tires. Is there any reason that I can’t replace them with T rated tires with the same load rating? I know what the speed ratings mean and I do not ever drive over 75, sometimes 80 but very seldom. T rated tires are a lot smoother tire over bumps.
If the car came from the manufacturer with V rated tires, you should replace them with V rated tires for your safety and the safety of anyone that may drive your car in the future.
