Question 98
Posted by Kenneth on June 8, 2005

I saw another person asking about lowering engine speed by using taller tires in the 245/70R 19.5 range and I saw the stats for the 265/70R 19.5. My question is that since we are having some difficulty in obtaining 245/70R 19.5 in the H Load Range could I substitute for a 265/70R 19.5 and what difficulties would I encounter with ride and handling. The application is Freightliner 60 series as an ambulance/rescue application. I also have some IH Med duty with the same 245/70R 19.5 tire and the same appliction as the Freightliner.

You are going to raise the vehicle 1/2" with the 265/70R19.5
The ride would be slightly better because of the higher sidewall. Handling may be slightly lower.
