Question 100
Posted by John on April 12, 2005

I don’t have a question, but the answer to most of the the first question on steer tire depth. Tell the people to switch the steers from side to side to max. tire life. 9/32 on the left & 12/32 on the right, will make the tread catch up and wear to 5/32 and then remove. I run a fleet of 500 trks. & 1200 trls. and we rotate steers, drives & even trailer tires. John L.

Every fleet has to put the pencil to their maintenance costs. There is no question that tire rotation will improve tire life but there is a cost along with vehicle downtime associated with rotating truck tires.

Question 82
Posted by Ed on April 12, 2005

I purchased a 1988 GMC C6000 24′ box truck. It currently has 8R19.5 tires on it. I will be removing the box and adding a rollback body in the future. I heard/read that a 225 70r19.5 is a better replacement for the 8R. Is this true? I am looking for a tire with good all season traction since a lot of my travel is down country roads. What do you recommend for tire size and brand. Thanks!

A 225/70R19.5 G124 tire is rated at 3415 lbs at 95 psi with a tread width of 8.9" and an overall diameter of 32.4".
The 8R19.5 G647 tire is rated at 3415 lbs at 110 psi.Tire wideth is 8.3" with an overall diameter of 33.3"

Question 60
Posted by Kenneth on April 7, 2005

What’s with all the delays in getting tires out. It seems that I have seen a lot of inquiries on other sites I deal with regarding delays in tire supplies. It does not seem to be limited to one manufacture either.

There is a global shortage of truck tires due to tremendous demand at both Orignal Equipment and Replacement. All tire manufacturers have the same issue.

Question 61

I am in need for a pair of E-60-15 for my 1970 AAR. Is Goodyear going to reproduce this
product? I can buy the G-60-15
tires for the rear of the car, but can not buy the smaller tires needed for the front.
Help!!!!!!!!!!
Craig

We have no plans to make this tire size. You need to contact one of the many specialty tire manufactuers.

Is posible to find a 11-24.5 , it means tubular and conventional too , ´cause we are using trailers off-road all the time , and adition our road conditions are severes.

We no longer make bias truck tires. We do make the radial 11R24.5 size.
