DC Airco 12 Volt AC
October 30, 2006 @ 11:06 am
Q. I am in the process of evaluating several different anti Idling solutions for my small fleet (21 tractors). I am leaning towards the DC Airco 8500 Split unit for AC and the ESPAR Airtronic D2 Heater coupled to 2 AGM batteries. What can you tell me about the DC Airco 8500 unit and do you know of any users in North America?
A. Roger, I believe that you're making the right decision on all accounts including the 2AGM batteries. Foremost, your decision, most likely has eliminated your need to idle for both heat and A/C, which is a common practice of many small fleets your size. While most fleets are weary of a battery powered technology A/C system, we have found that with proper management, these technologies work quite well. Your concern seems to be with power management but with the additional batteries that you are spec'ing, the battery draw of a battery power A/C system should not be a problem. Should you have any other questions, including references, please call 800-387-4800 and ask for our tech department.

IDLE REDUCTION UNITS
September 13, 2006 @ 2:46 pm
Q. DO YOU KNOW WHERE I SHOULD LOOK FOR USED UNITS FOR SALE? I HAVE TRIED SEARCHES BUT CANNOT FIND WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR.
A. Hi April, I'm afraid I cannot help you with this, you may want to look at some of our bigger distributors, you can find them at http://www.espar.com/htm/Directory/directory.htm Espar fuel operated heaters aren't that expensive and typically we find that if someone buys a new truck they take the systems with them, they're easy to remove and reinstall.

Anti-Idling Grant Money
September 6, 2006 @ 6:01 pm
Q. We have developed a low cost Truck Stop Electrification system, or at least we are close to being done. My question is, Can manufacturers of TSE’s receive grant money to develop their product further and help with the intitial capital investment. We are located in New England
A. Simple answer "Yes". It doesn't come easy, you'll have to apply for it and that can be a challenge and a ton of work, and that doesn't even guarantee that you'll get it. There is another TSE system out there I won't mention their name, point is that they've managed to secure a considerable amount of federal and state money.

A. If it is truely called Opt-Ilde, I would call Detroit Diesel directly or visit their web site. They were the developers of that particular named version of Optimized Idling.
