Mr. Dennehy has been V.P. of Marketing and Communications with Espar for 9 years. He has played an integral part in working with several levels of government agencies in both the U.S. and Canada to bring awareness to the challenges of idling, anti-idling technologies and the reduction of green house gases. Mr. Dennehy will entertain questions on anti-idling technologies, state regulations and state/province initiatives regarding rebates/incentives and also idling laws and fines within each state.

As diesel fuel continues to climb in price, states continue to attempt to regulate idle time and the EPA is set to move forward with the 2007 and 2010 emissions.
Do you see any Tax Breaks or incentives for purchasing Idle reduction systems?
Do you have any recomendations on what is the best idle reduction systems on the market today? Why?
How many different idle reduction systems are on the market today and where can you obtain information about them?

Yes, I addressed this in another letter. Incentives are coming, it's a matter of when. There is no question that the EPA will mandate no idling in all states. Each state will most likely be able to adopt their own initatives on how to combat this. Low interest loans and tax incentives are some of the ways they are looking at helping the end customer. Best Idle Systems? It really depends on what your needs are and where you travel. Technologies are avialable for warm climates, cold climates and/or both as well as additional need for power supplies. Technologies are: Auxiliary independent Fuel Fired Heating Systems Electrical Air-conditioning systems Generator Sets/ APU's Inverters Truck Stop Electrification All differ, when outfitting, think about your particular needs, cost, weight etc. There are over 6 different technologies out there, you can obtain more information about them at: http://www.epa.gov/smartway/idlingtechnologies.htm a non biased government related site. Great Question

Don, You happen to be in one of the toughest states when it comes to "NO IDLING". You are not allowed to idle past 3 minutes. Offenses can be harsh. 1st offense: $200.00 2nd offense: $400.00 3rd offense: $1000.00 4th & subsequent offense: $3000.00 for more information on state idling laws, check out this link. http://www.epa.gov/smartway/idle-state.htm

what are some fleets doing to curve the idling percentages,, what are some other ways to help with mpg, whats best direct drive or over drive transmission, we run 25.5 lp tire should we go to 3.25 rear ratio from 3.55.. please give some insight on were to go to improve mpg

While I deal with anti-idling from a fuel consumption perspective there are other ways of running a more efficient fleet. Aero-Dynamics, tires and as you suggested transmission ratios are some of them. I however cannot comment directly on ratios.
