I run a Chemical operation that moves low flash point solvents. I am looking for a solution that eliminates the potential of an ignition source coming from an onboard heater that could get to residual fumes from the tank unit. We are concerned about the potential to have the ignition source be a heater such as Espar. Is anyone in our industry running these units in this application….are they employing special safeguards?

Hi Mr. Dennehy, I write a trucking blog appearing on several sites, soon my own. I am hoping I can ask you a few questions for an upcoming blog and podcast. I am also working on distr. for a radio prog. I very much believe in alternative power sources instaed of truck idling and I feel on board generators are the way to go, not pull in hook-ups. Would you be interested in a future interview with me for my blog “On the Road” with the original florida kid. I appear on truck.net and truckertotrucker.com as well as truckerreport.com, afew other blog sites too. I am setting up my own site and networking this week and next week and, in an on-going situation I plan to include this aspect, an everyday cost effective aspect of the drivers life, in my weekly blog. I am also a huge proponent of mobile internet for laptops for drivers too. My blog content varies from week to week although I do have regular segemnts, I am adding more each week. this is one issue I intend to push weekly because I really believe in it. Campers have had them for years. Thanks.
WE are using the US Census Commodity Flow Survey with the latest data 2002. We cannot find state data after that for truck & rail and may need to wait until Dec 08 for the next survey.

Due to the anti-idling fervor in the United States air conditioning and heating systems being sold into our industry vary from battery operated systems, stand-alone diesel powered systems, shore power and combination systems including devices such as inverters.
All such systems are aimed at eliminating idle time.
If a truck engine is shut off what redundency is built into the truck or such systems to assure the driver that his truck will start when he is ready to move?
After all, we need those truck batteries to start the engine. What if they (the truck batteries) fail or begin to fail during the engine stopped period due to poor maintenance, end of life cycle, over charging or under charging, extreme cold or heat?
