Price of Diesel
November 6, 2006 @ 11:16 am
Q. Jan 16, 2006, a question and subsequent answer was posted regarding the cost ratio of diesel to gasoline. Although I can see you may be partially correct in your answer, the underlying disparity for the price differential is taxes. The refining process is less for diesel, and government agencies have found that it is a source of revenue. A revue of the tax per gallon both federal and state will show the price that was once less for diesel, is now more not due to supply and demand, but by taxation under the auspices of road repair, construction, and maintenance.
Having done the research, I can attest that the percentage of use, gallons puchased, and construction contribution by diesel users is not the major factor in the price disparity.
Thanks.
A. Buchanan, O.K.; I'll post this because it's another view, and albeit, may have some value and merit. We'll see by the response of the readership!
