Q. What is the advantages and disadvantages between APUs, Shorepower, battery power, and any other products being sold to reduce engine idle.
A. Advantages vary, APU's/Gen Sets are one of the most sensible options, primarily becuase they can do everything, heating, cooling and provide power for hotel loads. They are also mobile applications and go where the truck goes. The downside is they are heavy and expensive. Shorepower is economical but you need to find a location where that power is available and accessable. Battery powered units are typically lighter and more efficient, the downside is you need to manage your battery systems carefully. Most Battery powered products do have over and under voltage cut outs on them so you can always start your engine.
