Q. What are the idling laws in New Jersey?I run six states,and am based out of New Jersey,and have not heard about what the laws are.Thanks
A. Don, You happen to be in one of the toughest states when it comes to “NO IDLING”. You are not allowed to idle past 3 minutes. Offenses can be harsh.
1st offense: $200.00
2nd offense: $400.00
3rd offense: $1000.00
4th & subsequent offense: $3000.00

Q. what are some fleets doing to curve the idling percentages,, what are some other ways to help with mpg,whats best direct drive or over drive transmission, we run 25.5 lp tire should we go to 3.25 rear ratio from 3.55.. please give some insight on were to go to improve mpg
A. While I deal with anti-idling from a fuel consumption perspective there are other ways of running a more efficient fleet. Aero-Dynamics, tires and as you suggested transmission ratios are some of them. I however cannot comment directly on ratios.

A. Well I have to say you’re following the right path, I’ve never seen so much momentum in any market as the one that is currently happening in the Truck & Bus market when it comes to anti-idling. I use the EPA web site frequently to find government funding oppotunities, you’re on the right track. CMAQ (state wide) offers other oppotunities. You might want to check in with them from time to time.
